Music from 12-3PM beginning with soft Jazz saxophone live in the lounge, followed by a professional Jazz band. The afternoon starts with an hour of slow jazz standards on piano from jazz saxophonist Guy Smith. The perfect starter to your Shill’s Slow Jazz Roast. Your musical second course will see a return from local Jazz royalty Suzey & The Jazz Cats. More on the acts.. GUY SMITH Coming from London and having played most well known venues in the capital with a wide variety of bands over the years Guy has recently settled in West Cumbria following an eight year sojourn in Britanny, France. Playing solo or within a band set up music has offered the opportunity to meet and play with some fantastic players and Cumbria is no exception. Guy Smith Saxophone offers warm, rich tenor saxophone playing a mix of blues, jazz and R&B flavoured songs. SUZEY & THE CATS A live jazz quartet… Piano, drums, bass, sax and vocals. Performing jazz standards but are also well-versed in stylised jazz versions of more mainstream hits. They play a mix of instrumental and vocal numbers and offer a large catalogue of music for any occasion. The Jazz Cats are all seasoned musicians with a combined live experience of over 200 years! Suzey’s (vocals) background started in the mid/late 80’s when she began singing in mainstream club bands and had a brief period as a professional vocalist in the late 80’s based in Doncaster. She continued to work in club bands throughout the 90’s, and was a regular performer in and around Cumbria and the North East. She took a few years off from 2017-2022 then decided that she wanted to follow her musical passion for Jazz and took the leap to form her own jazz band. She advertised for musicians and was incredibly fortunate to be contacted by the other band members who shared the same passion for Jazz, the rest is history. Drummer Robin has some 60+ years experience, is well-known and respected as a session musician for musical theatre and part of big bands throughout his career. Musical director Mike is a well respected and truly gifted musician of some 40+ years with experience ranging from classical and musical theatre, through to rock.. he’s worked a musical director for amateur operatic and dramatic societies for years and continues to do so. Bass player Jimmy is a well known stalwart of club-land and a member of the well known club band Salvador.. a multi-instrumentalist with experience of some 50+ years. Saxophone player is a multi-instrumentalist and trained in classical music originally, she was tutored by Roz Sluman and has also trained and worked with the likes of Snake Davies.
